He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

Sunday, 29 March 2009

This song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by The Hollies, imbedded into this blog, is dedicated to my younger brother who died here in Kuching in 1999.

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my bro-th-er

So on we go....

His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bare
We'll get there

And I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my bro-th-er....

If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another

It's a long, long ro-a-d
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share

And the load-oh-a-hoad
Doesn't weigh me down - at all
He ain't heavy he's my brother

He's my bro-th-er
He ain't heavy, he's my bro-th-er ( x 3)

Kuching Waterfront

Monday, 29 September 2008

It has been years since I traveled on the sampan (boat). I was then just a young teenage. The boatmen manually rowed the boats across then. They still stand in the front of their boat with their 2 oars. At the start of the crossing they would row a few times to turn the boat turn to the opposite direction. I think that maybe that is the reason. Correct me if I am wrong. Next thing you hear is the sound of the motor engine. The rowing stopped.

According to the big notice boards on both side of the shores, it is 30 cents per person for a ride across the river. On disembarking, Lay Tin was told by the boatman that it was 40 cents per person. Those passengers who heard the conversation between the boatman and us gave us a kind of look. We were wondering if the boatmen had a different charge for 'tourists'. Somehow these people are smart. They know that Sis and I are not locals. An extra 10 cts is nothing so we didn't fuss but we were unhappy that it did not comply with what is on the board.

Thinking that the previous boatmen treated us unfairly, we made sure we didn't board his boat. Returning to the main shore, I spoke to a lady sitting opposite me in the boat and she told me that the price of the boat ride has been increased to 40 cts when the global fuel price increased! That was why!!!!! We were ignorant about that. Blame the notice board for making us felt the way we did earlier on.

Kuching Friendship Garden

My first time visiting this park. Lovely garden. Grateful that Lay Tin took us there.

Inscriptions on the sides of the boat:

This is interesting! The cat symbolizes the Kuching city and the panda symbolizes the China country. Me and my sister remarked that the cat does not symbolize the country Malaysia. I think the tiger is. I am not really sure. But then it wouldn't it look funny with a tiger sitting opposite the panda? Well! I guess because this park is in the Kuching city.

I always like these bridges!

I only studied 1 book of Mandarin in Primary 3 to I don't know Primary what. I can read a little more than I could write. Only managed to communicate in layman's terms and my own style to carry my thoughts and feelings across. These words - I really don't know!
